Pam Bentley
Director of Youth Ministry

In order to have a relationship with God, it is necessary to understand who God is and the story He has written for us.  We want our youth to understand what they believe and why they believe it, strengthening a faith that sticks with them after high school graduation, through college and into adulthood.

C.R.E.W. Bible Study meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am in the youth space on the second floor.

Middle and high school students start together for a large group message, then breakout into separate groups for discussion.

VBUMC uses curriculum and resources from Think Orange for the spiritual growth of students in our preschool, elementary, and youth programs. C.R.E.W. will feature curriculum and resources from Orange called XP3, guiding our students to experience three things:

  • Wonder for who God is and the relationship He offers.
  • Discovery of who God created them to be.
  • Passion for loving others.

At VBUMC, we believe that our passion for Christ is deepened through worship.  All 6th – 12th graders are encouraged to come and be a part of worship specifically geared for and led by our youth.

C.R.E.W. Worship is offered on the 1st Sunday of each month from 5:00-6:30 pm from October through June.

Join us in the youth space for youth-led worship and stay after for dinner and games. No RSVP necessary. Come as you are!

We want VBUMC youth to be active followers of Christ whose purpose is displayed through service. Our youth have opportunities to serve throughout the year right here at home:

  • Church Service Involvement – Youth are encouraged to be a part of the life of the church by serving right here at VBUMC on Sunday mornings.  Greet at the door, become an acolyte, assist as an usher, help with AV Tech Support, perform musically, or share other skills and talents.
  • Children’s Ministry Volunteer  – Children’s Ministry is always looking for extra hands with the younger kids. There are opportunities to serve in Sunday School, special events and Vacation Bible School.
  • Local Mission Experiences – The need in our area is greater than many realize. We go out into our local community to serve together each month to “reach the beach.”

And there’s also opportunity to serve outside our community:

  • Summer Mission Trips – Mission trips connect our middle and high school students to God, each other, and communities. During these week-long trips outside our region, students and adults work to make homes and communities warmer, safer, drier, and more accessible for God’s people in need.

  • Field Trips

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity for youth to affirm their faith, grow as a disciple of Jesus, and explore full membership in the United Methodist Church. Our Confirmation program runs for approximately six weeks in the spring semester, culminating on Pentecost Sunday in May. It is open to all youth grades 6-12 who are ready to take this next step in their faith journey.

REGISTER HERE

For more information about Confirmation, contact Pam Bentley, Director of Youth Ministry, 757-428-7727 ext. 220.

FAQ:

This year, Confirmation is open to all students in grades 6-12 who feel ready to explore this step of faith towards membership in the church.

Confirmation classes will be held on Sunday mornings at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in the Youth Space. Classes begin on Sunday, April 19.

The program will be led by Pam Bentley, Director of Youth Ministry, with assistance from the Youth Leadership Team and Confirmation Mentors.

Confirmation Sunday is Sunday, May 31. Students will be confirmed during the 9:30 am worship service.  These students will also be introduced and welcomed by the congregation at the end of the 8:00 am service and beginning of the 11:00 am service.

There is no cost for Confirmation. All program materials are covered by the church.

These are adults within our Virginia Beach UMC congregation who feel called to support and lead our students through the Confirmation journey.  Mentors must go through Safe Sanctuary training prior to serving and adhere to the policy. Confirmation students will select a mentor from our list of volunteers. Mentors will not be required to attend all classes with their student, but will meet for small group discussion. Prayer Partners will continually lift our Confirmation students up in prayer and celebrate with us on Confirmation Sunday, May 31. Those interested in serving as a Confirmation Mentor or Prayer Partner may contact Pam Bentley at pbentley@vbumc.org for more information.
