Care & Support Ministries
Compassion for All God's People
...here to be God’s hands, bringing hope and love in the midst of life’s challenges.
We want to care for and support our families, friends, and neighbors, and show compassion and love for all of God’s people. One of the ways we do that is by providing ministries that specialize in certain areas of support for those going through specific issues and needing specific assistance. Feel free to connect with our prayer team so they can help you find a place that fits your needs.
We believe prayer changes lives.
To many, prayer seems complicated but it’s simply talking. Spending time in prayer is the best way to develop and grow our relationship with God. Count your minutes spent daily in one or more prayer disciplines. See where you are now, set a goal, and see how God blesses your increased time with Him.
WEEKLY ON TUESDAYS
7:30 AM
CONFIDENTIALITY IS OBSERVED.
This group gathers to pray for requests received from Sunday worship services, our online requests, and a variety of other sources.
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry is an outreach ministry that seeks to share Christ’s love and healing power with hurting people in our community through one-on-one connection. A Stephen Minister meets weekly with a hurting person to listen, care, pray, and embody God’s presence as they struggle with a difficult time in life. They may be experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, retirement, pregnancy, or other life crises.
If you or someone you know might benefit from meeting with a Stephen Minister, please contact Chuck Cassidy, 757-428-7727 ext. 245 or ccassidy@vbumc.org. A person can receive the caring service of a Stephen Minister for as long or as short of a time as they wish. The identity of those receiving care, as well as anything that is shared, remains confidential.
If you’re interested in joining the Stephen Ministry team, please contact Chuck Cassidy, 757-428-7727 ext. 245 or ccassidy@vbumc.org. All Stephen Ministers receive around 50 hours of initial training, then meet twice a month after their initial training to participate in continuing education, skill-building exercises, and group support. Becoming a Stephen Minister is a commitment but will reward you with spiritual growth, relational skills, and the opportunity to see God at work in and through you to bring hope and healing to another person.
