Worship

We offer many service opportunities that help make worship a meaningful and sacred experience in our beautiful sanctuary.  Some tasks are performed behind the scenes during the week or on Sundays.  Other tasks are performed in front of the congregation during worship services.  However, each and every task is a vital and necessary component of an energizing and excellent worship service!

Responsibilities:  Bring the light of Christ into the worship service by lighting the altar candles. Training provided.  Must be at the designated service fifteen minutes before the start of the service.
Spiritual Gifts:  Helps/Assistance
Schedule:  Once every month or two on a rotational basis.
Length of Commitment:  None specified.

Responsibilities:  Recruit and train acolytes. The Acolyte Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to train and schedule acolytes for the 8:00 and 11:00 Sunday services and other special services as needed. Other duties include laundering/repairing the acolyte robes and maintaining the candle lighters and wicks.
Spiritual Gifts:  Administration/Leadership.
Schedule:  1 hour every six months and training as needed.
Length of Commitment:  1 year.

Responsibilities:  Decorate the sanctuary as needed.  Make the sanctuary physically attractive and conducive for worship.
Spiritual Gifts:  Helps/Assistance
Schedule:  3 hours, 2-3 times a year.
Length of Commitment:  Not specified.

Responsibilities:  Operate all equipment in sound booth and maintain quality sound, trouble shooting any technical problems, and correct as necessary  Run the sound booth on Sunday morning at one of three services, help with sound at VBUMC special events.  Run control board and record service.

Schedule:  One Sunday a month from 9 – 12 AM in sound booth.  If running sound for 9:30, must attend Wednesday practice.
Length of Commitment:  1 year.

Responsibilities:  Chandeliers and the sanctuary are cleaned occasionally as part of routine sanctuary care.

Schedule:  2-3 hours twice a year.
Length of Commitment:  Not specified.

Responsibilities:  The team prepares the elements for Holy Communion and cleans up after the service.  Communion is usually set up the Saturday evening prior to the traditional first Sunday of the month Communion Service.
Spiritual Gifts:  Helps/Assistance
Schedule:  Team rotates preparing and cleaning up for Communion.  Time required is 2 hours once a month the Saturday before the first Sunday of the month.
Length of Commitment:  Not specified.

Responsibilities:  Assist Pastors in serving the Communion elements during Sunday worship service.  Please specify which service you attend.

Schedule:  Serve on a rotational basis.

Responsibilities:  Pick up, arrange, and deliver flowers that have been left on the altar to nursing homes or homebound members.

Responsibilities:  Lay Readers assist in the various reading of Scripture, etc. during  the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 worship services.  Specify which service you attend when volunteering!

Responsibilities:  Ensure the sanctuary is in order for the worship services, especially Sunday mornings.  Replenish the pew racks and straighten hymnals and Bibles, etc.

Schedule:  1 hour week once a month on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities:  Prepare the sanctuary for worship, especially for Sunday mornings.

Responsibilities:  Participate in the greeting and assisting of all members and visitors during the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 worship services and special events.  Minister to the congregation in all service duties by providing a helpful and orderly direction to the worship service, offering a warm welcome and assistance with whatever needs arise.  Both men and women are invited to usher.  Specify which service you attend when volunteering!
Spiritual Gifts:  1 1/2 hours on assigned Sundays
Schedule:  Usher teams rotate months of service.

Responsibilities:  Assist in worship by operating the Power Point for the 9:30 worship service.  Includes setting up the computer and in-focus projector and operating the Power Point. MUST have experience running PowerPoint but do not need to create presentations.
Spiritual Gifts:  Helps/Assistance
Schedule:  Set up at 9:15, operate 9:15 – 10:15, clean up 10:15 – 10:30.  Assist other video projection operators at least 1 Sunday a month.  Substitute as necessary.
