Gather Grow Glorify

The Building Committee is continuing to move forward with the exciting plans to replace the North Wing building.  The vision for new growth and future life of our church began in 2006 when the Building Committee was tasked with researching replacement possibilities for the North Wing.  The development is ongoing and we are now in the Design Stage process.  With the potential of the new facility, we will continue to focus on growing and strengthening faith in Christ and encouraging and promoting Christian fellowship in our community!  The Faith & Fellowship Center will do just that – grow and build opportunities for faith, worship, education, and outreach at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.

The Faith & Fellowship Center will be a beacon in our urban setting to attract people from the surrounding city blocks, neighborhoods, and nearby military installations as well as vacationers.  We want to encourage and promote Christian fellowship and foster the growth of discipleship, Biblical literacy, and spiritual formation in an inviting, engaging, and safe atmosphere.  Youth from our congregation and community will have a new, dedicated facility, which will be a safe, exciting place to experience spiritual growth!

The financial aspect of the project is as important as the design phase.  The projected cost of the new North Wing is $7.5 million, although it is too early to calculate final building costs.  The financial goal for building the Faith & Fellowship Center is to raise 2/3 of the projected cost of the building in pledges and contributions to make the financial plan workable.  This money must be pledged or contributed before construction begins.  The decision was made that 10% of all money raised in the Capital Campaign will be donated for missions.  We are excitedly moving towards a congregational information presentation in the fall of 2010 that will precede a church conference to be held at a later date.

The Building Committee was commissioned with prayer, discernment, and the belief that if God wants His church to expand and grow, He will supply the right people, plans, and provisions.  During the past 4 years, the belief that God will provide has not faltered.  Today we are excited about the prospect of turning 100 years old in 2011 as we anticipate building a bridge to the community and the future of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.  We want you to be fully informed and enthusiastic about the project!  Look for additional information and building plans on the bulletin board as you enter the Fellowship Hall.

We have a unique location and an opportunity to grow God’s Kingdom in Virginia Beach, attracting and bringing more people to Christ and making disciples for Christ.  Consider this:  How much more - through outreach and evangelism, Christian growth and fellowship - could we be doing now for our congregation and community if we had a new North Wing?  This is the time to pray, commit, contribute, and take the next courageous step to make the Faith & Fellowship Center a reality!
