Sermon Series August - a five week series on deepening our relationship with God “Hello World, It’s Me, God. I’ve Got a Question or Two” There are some who hold that Scripture is essentially a conversation between God and God’s people designed to draw us into a deeper relationship. If so, then there are bound to be some questions coming our way. How do we prepare to answer the five questions God is going to ask?
August 29th 1Kings: 13-14 “Ducking and Dodging: What Are You Doing Here?” Rev. Ted David We are never without a good excuse; just ask. There are times when God pushes our excuses aside and patiently
waits for an explanation. How will we respond when God asks, “What are you doing here?”
August 22nd Genesis 32:22-28 “Holding On to Our Sanity” What Is Your Name?” Bradford Phillips, Norfolk District Superintendant. things that have shaped or distorted your life? Dare we summon the courage to name our demons as God calls
out, “What’s your name?”
August 15th Exodus 4:1-5 “Unrealized Power: What’s That In Your Hand?” Rev. Ed Johnson We never seem to see ourselves as powerful or resourceful. In fact, we often convince ourselves that we’re
woefully inadequate to put up much of a fight at all. When we’re on the verge of outright surrender, God
asks, “What’s that in your hand?”
August 8th Genesis 4:2b-9 “So Many Faces in the Crowd: Where Is Your Brother?” Rev. Ed Johnson The people we pass every day are usually friends, foes or those in between. We all have our own lives to live.
What are our responsibilities to those we know and those we don’t? Why does God bother to ask, “Where is your
brother?”
August 1st Genesis 3:8-13 “A Rustling in the Underbrush: Where Are You?” Rev. Ted David God searches tirelessly for all of us. Given the opportunity, some of us scamper and hide: other just hope to go
unnoticed. Before our lives can take on real meaning, we must respond to the persistent pursuit of the God who
loves us and asks repeatedly, “Where are You?”
July 4 - July 25th "Just over There and On Down the Road" (a 4 week series on choosing our destinations) July 25th Mark 4:35-41 “A Faith That Continues Beyond the Rest Stop” Rev. Ted David There are moments in life when, honestly, we deserve a little rest and reward. These are also the very moments
when God usually has something else in mind. How does God move us from comfortableness to authentic faith?
The boundaries of God’s kingdom stretch far beyond what we expect. Sometimes God asks us to venture
beyond what we’ve always considered safe, sound and even sane. What might we discover if we muster
the courage to step out of bounds?
July 11th Ezekiel 37:1-14 “Out of Time, Out of Gas, and Stuck on the Side of the Road" So many of us have let the main road and taken a detour through wasted opportunities, poor choices
and broken dreams. How can God enable us to find hope to continue on our way? Rev. Ed Johnson
July 4th Matthew 8:5-10 “Across the Road, Off the Cliff and Into the Arms of God” Rev. Ted David We discover ourselves divided culturally, politically and religiously. The distances often appear too wide to be
bridged. How can God possibly pull us together again for nobler purposes?
