Care and Support

Responsibilities: Emotions Anonymous is a 12-step support group for people going through depression, anxiety attacks, emotional problems, etc. who want to learn tools that help with recovery.
Spiritual Gifts: Mercy/Compassion
Schedule: The group meets every Tuesday at 12:30.

Responsibilities: Volunteers prayerfully knit or crochet children’s sweaters for distribution overseas at Christmas as well as Prayer Shawls for persons experiencing difficult times.

Responsibilities: Stephen Ministry provides a one-on-one caring ministry by trained lay members of our congregation. It is an extension but not a replacement of pastoral care for those experiencing difficult circumstances in their lives. Training provided.

Schedule: 50 hours of training, then 5 hours per month in continuing education and supervision. Approximately 4 hours monthly meeting with care receiver.

Responsibilities: Gather to pray for requests received from Sunday worship services, our internet prayer room, and a variety of other sources. Confidentiality is observed.

Men’s Ministry

Responsibilities: Virginia Beach UMM is an organization of men who provide a dedicated ministry for building men spiritually and involving men in the total ministry of the church. Assist as necessary with meetings, events, and programs.

Schedule: Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month 7:30 AM. Other activities or meetings as scheduled.
Length of Commitment: Varies with task or job description.

Marriage/Family Ministry

Responsibilities: Prepare lessons and provide leadership/facilitation.

Schedule: Preparation time and 2 hours on Friday per month, September – June.
Length of Commitment: Nine months.

Responsibilities: All skill levels are needed to help guide beginning surfers! Catch beginning surfers in the surf and visit and invite ministry participants to church and fellowship.
Schedule: During the summer, Saturdays in July; 9:30 – 11:30 AM on 4th Street.

Adult Music

Responsibilities: 9:30 service singers and band lead congregational singing

Responsibilities: The Sanctuary Choir sings to enhance worship and to minister through singing during the regular 11:00 Sunday worship services and present special programs during the year with the Chamber Choir.

Responsibilities: Sanctuary Orchestra is open to all instrumentalists (senior high youth and adults). This ensemble performs in worship approximately once per month and is open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. Children’s and Youth Choirs

Responsibilities: Assist children’s Choir Director each Wednesday night with record keeping, robes, instruments, snacks, an maintaining order during rehearsals and programs. Specify the children’s age group or choir name.

Play and Praise: Three year olds can expect to have non-stop fun learning musical and spiritual concepts through this creative classroom experience. The class uses a multi-sensory approach to learning that 3 year olds and parents alike will enjoy. Classes will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:30-5:55 pm. Cherubs: Children, age 4, form this choir. These children sing in worship and special productions. Rehearsals are each Wednesday from 6:00 – 6:45 PM, September through May, in S-311.

Angels: Children age 5 – Kindergarten form this choir. These children sing in worship and special productions. Rehearsals are each Wednesday from 6:00 to 6:45 PM, September through May, in S-311.

Archangels: This choir consists of first and second graders. They sing in worship and special productions. Rehearsals are each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:15 PM, September through May, in S-200.

Gabriels: This choir consists of children in grades 3-5. They sing in worship and special productions. Rehearsals are each Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, September through May, in S-200.

Responsibilities: The Youth Choir is the vocal ensemble for grades 6-12. Music performed will cover a wide range of styles including classical, contemporary, spirituals, musical theater and more! Performance opportunities will include singing once a month in worship services, participation in musicals, outreach performances, and other special events.

Women’s Ministry

Responsibilities: Mentor MOPS women by listening, encouraging, and offing Godly perspectives. She often teaches, schedules guest speakers, and disciples the Steering Team.

Responsibilities: Plan small group Bible Studies (curriculum) to encourage women to share their faith, fellowship, and life experiences to promote spiritual maturity and build strong Christian women.
